Dear Preferred Customer and Friend,

After 6 years of serving you and the Wichita area community with inspiring contemporary furnishings and design, we have made the very, very difficult decision to close our retail division.  This news comes after much thought and consideration.  Our owner Bill Jackson stated in his press release,  "One of the most agonizing decisions an entrepreneur makes is when to give up on a venture."   The realities of the furniture business as a whole, which is suffering one of the most challenging periods in its history, coupled with the recent economic slowdown made this decision unavoidable.

Bill, a longtime Wichita businessman and entrepreneur,  founded ABODE on the idea that furniture shopping should be fun.  He wanted to offer a shopping experience and product line that was unique to Wichita - and at that we hope we have succeeded.  We have loved serving you these past 6 years and we are so grateful to you - our customers.  

Of course, you're probably asking - what does this mean for you?

• What if I have a problem?  First and foremost even though ABODE's retail store front is closing its doors, all of our sister companies, including ABODE's commercial division ACI (Abode Commercial Interiors) and Furniture Options, located directly behind us at 1336 E. Douglas, will continue on and BE HERE to handle any product or warranty issues that might arise.  You can expect the same level of care and customer service that you've come to expect from the ABODE name.  Even after we close you can still reach us by calling 316.267.1330. 

• I'm waiting on an order - what now?  If you have an existing order pending - DO NOT WORRY.  All orders will be honored as planned and delivered to you on arrival.  You can rest easy that our talented team will continue to take care of you until your order is complete.  Remember, ABODE may be closing, but our sister companies and personnel are here to take care of you. 

• What about that design project I was waiting to start?  If you've been waiting to complete or start the next phase in your design project  this is the perfect opportunity.  We will offer a 10% off Special Order Discount now through April 30th.  Our designers are ready to help you get the ABODE look that you've come to love before it's too late.

ABODE Design Work Featured in “From House to Home” and “Wichita Magazine”

 A home furnished by ABODE (including all the Christmas decor) was recently featured on the cover of “From House To Home” Magazine.  The home,  full of clean lines and a calming neutral pallets, is a feast for the eyes and perfect for holiday entertaining.  

We also made a big splash in the Nov/Dec issue of “Wichita Magazine” highlighting the recent Symphony Showhouse.  ABODE designed the dining room (the feature photo) from top to bottom and supplied furniture and accessories for 3 other rooms in the home....the Hearth Room, Morning Room and Master Bath. 

 ABODE is once again the leader in innovation, this time we're helping to change the face of East Douglas!! 

A new coalition, formed by ABODE's owner Bill Jackson, has taken up residence on East Douglas.   Know as The Douglas Design District, this new association is composed of independent merchants and businesses, many offering products and services for the home.  The majority of these merchants are located along a stretch of Douglas reaching from Washington to Oliver and the coalition's mission is to revitalize this two-mile stretch of one of the city's oldest thoroughfares. 

The idea for the Douglas Design District was formulated in 2006 by Bill Jackson - owner of ABODE and located in the District.  Jackson organized the group after realizing the collection of businesses in the district that focused on the various aspects of home design, décor, fashion and art.  The coalition is already working with Wichita city leaders to secure funding for improvements in an effort to attract additional home design merchants as well as restaurants, galleries and other businesses to the area.  "We're using design as the focus, but our goal is positive growth for the area."  Say Jackson.  "We're trying to create what I call a "scenic urban avenue" for people to use when they want to come downtown, someplace you'd take your out-of-town friends."

Long range plans include adding new streetlights, park benches, sculptures, landscaped medians, signage designating the district, and historical markers.  Beyond aesthetics, the group hopes to improve quality of life in the area's residential neighborhoods as well.  "We'd like to have people walking along the streets in the evenings, going to restaurants, be out shopping and living down here," says Jackson.  "We'd like to tie it into Old Town and make it possible for people to walk between this area and Old Town, even all the way to the new arena and WaterWalk." 

The new Parkstone development at Douglas and Rutan is also within the Douglas Design District and is one of the coalitions members.  In fact, the membership reads like a "Who's, Who" of upscale and downtown retail in Wichita and includes:  Aspen Boutique, Cero's Candies, Dean's Designs, Douglas Photographic, Kitchens Plus, Designers Expo, Kitchen's by Design, Monica's Bundt Cakes, Paradise Antiques,  Susan's Flowers, Traditions Furniture, Razook's Furniture, The Spice Merchant, Wiborn Hair Company, World Import Gallery and many more.
